Salrom SA - Brittle salt blocks removal

In one of the largest salt mines in Europe we performed removal of dangerous salt blocks on the ceiling and walls of the public visitable mine.

The salt blocks were threatening the safety of tourists below. They were removed in the off hours on level – 150 m below ground. The access on the ceiling was done with a mobile scaffolding sustained by cables anchored in the salt walls. The anchors were load tested. The non-brittle salt turned out to be a good anchoring media.

Temporary anchors were used to deviate the lines on the huge overhangs beneath the ceiling. Salt blocks were mechanically removed resulting in several tonnes of salt debris.

Slanic salt mine is located in Slanic Prahova and is managed by Salrom S.A.
